INAUGURAL LECTURE BY PROFESSOR METTE HEDEGAARD THOMSEN
Research into the co-production of energy and super-compounds from new salt and drought tolerant plants are important contributions to the green transition. With her research, Mette Hedegaard is at the forefront of the development in this field. You are invited to participate in Mette's inaugural lecture: Unlocking the green transition by co-production of energy and super-compounds from new salt and drought tolerant plants.

Description
Abstract
In order to fully realize the green transition, there is a great need to develop new chemical and biotechnological processes to utilize and valorize all the valuable molecules in plant biomasses. This will also include exploring new types of resilient agricultural plants that can tolerate the increasing temperatures and soil salinities as the global warming and resulting rise in seawater levels becomes a reality.
In this presentation Mette Hedegaard Thomsen will talk about her work with halophyte plants which will include:
- Exploring (bioprospecting) for new high-value, bioactive plant compounds in salt march areas, like the Wadden Sea
- How to develop low cost and environmental friendly processes to extract and turn bioactive plant compounds into healing and immune enhancing products for people and animals.
- And at the same time produce biofuels and/or biochemicals from the energy molecules that are left over after extraction of the bioactive compounds.
After the lecture, the department will host a reception
