TEACHER OF THE YEAR AT THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE

The graduation ceremony was also an occasion to honor statistics instructor Sergey Kucheryavskiy who was named Teacher of the Year at the Faculty of Engineering and Science for all of Aalborg University. This is an additional distinction on top of his being named Teacher of the Year at the Study Board for Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering in 2017.

Teacher of the Year is a title given to a teacher who in the eyes of the students has done a particularly good job teaching, and Sergey Kucheryavskiy was honored with this title for his teaching in Applied Statistics.

The students highlighted the fact that Sergey has created a new learning platform that is both pedagogic and academic. He has spent many hours recording videos where he goes through every part of the syllabus, always accompanied by useful and understandable examples. He has also designed quizzes for all the subtopics and a discussion forum where students can ask questions of each other and of him. The learning platform motivates students to learn, and helps them better understand the subject matter of Applied Statistics.

"It was a great surprise to receive this title at the faculty level a second time. I am of course delighted" says Sergey: "I would like to thank my students who are a pleasure to work with, and also my colleagues who have always supported and inspired me."

The award was presented by Jens Muff, Associate Professor and Head of the Section for Chemical Engineering, AAU Esbjerg.
